GAME OF THRONES fans have a long wait for the final season of the HBO saga, and now one rumour suggests that Jon Snow could be immortal.
He has just been revealed to be a Targaryen, but it seems that Jon (played by Kit Harington) could have a bigger fate in the Seven Kingdoms.
The show has a history of being fairly vague with magic, choosing to focus more on violence and sex instead of hard fantasy.
However, as the saga nears its conclusion, it seems that supernatural powers are having a more important role.
Earlier in the series, Jon was killed by a group of usurpers in the Night’s Watch that weren’t happy about his style of ruling.
At the time, his resurrection, although important, didn’t seem to be focussed on a lot, as the hero leapt to his feet and took to continuing his mission to defeat the Night King (Vladimir Furdik) and the White Walkers.
But did being brought back to life actually give him immortality? One scene from the penultimate episode seems to suggest so to Digital Spy.
In Beyond The Wall, Jon is dragged into a freezing lake by the army of the dead, after missing his escape route on the back of Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) dragon.
Seemingly moments later, everyone’s favourite hero emerges from the water, grabs his sword Longclaw, and runs away before Benjen Stark (Joseph Mawle) rescues him.
However, an army of that size would take some time to clear, meaning that Jon would have been submerged underwater for a considerable amount of time.
Was this a simple production error or were show bosses actually hinting at Jon’s immortality?
This would certainly solve the show’s main problem – a good king can give birth to a bad one and vice versa – as Jon would always remain on top, especially now he’s a legitimate heir to the Iron Throne.
Game of Thrones will return for its eight and final season.
