Justin Fields, founder and executive creative director at Ironklad Studios, has shared concept art from Warner Bros.’ pending Justice League Dark.
Dark Universe concept art by Joseph Khan and Justin Fields of IronKlad Studios
“In 2015 Ironklad Studios was involved in a pitch with Director Joesph Kahn on his pitch for Dark Universe with a script by Guillermo Del Toro,” reads the description shared to ArtStation. “The project was eventually scrapped, and later turned into an animated feature with a completely different script.”
The concept art depicts the supernatural Swamp Thing, Floronic Man, Deadman, and Game of Thrones star Natalie Dormer as Zatanna, Doctor Strange star Chiwetel Ejiofor as Jason Blood, and Legion star Dan Stevens as John Constantine.
Del Toro, originally attached to helm the paranormal take on the Justice League, said Etrigan the Demon and Swamp Thing would have played roles in his proposed iteration of the project, which remains in limbo.
Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman stepped away from the project earlier this year.
Warner Bros. was said to be reworking the script after executives were reportedly “underwhelmed” by filmmaker pitches.
Housebound writer-director Gerard Johnstone gave the script its most recent polish, with It director Andy Muschietti named among those eyed by Warner Bros. to direct.
Horror It opened in September and proved a massive success for Warner Bros., going on to become the highest-grossing horror movie of all time with after a $696 million worldwide haul.
Warner Bros. revealed an updated DC Comics movie slate at Comic Con Experience 2017 in Sao Paulo, Brazil earlier this month, revealing Justice League Dark to still be among the many projects in the pipeline. There is currently no set release date.
