Star Trek fans now know the title of what will be the first new episode of Star Trek series in 12 years.
According to TV Guide, the series premiere episode of Star Trek: Discovery will be titled “The Vulcan Hello.”
Here’s a brief synopsis of the episode:
In the series premiere, new worlds and civilizations are explored by new members of the “Star Trek” universe.
The creators behind Star Trek: Discovery have been quite secretive about details of the new series, and that notion seems to continue into the information given to TV Guide. Fans so far only know that the episode involves the USS Shenzhou encountering a mysterious object while patrolling Federation space.
As for the premiere episode’s title, it may be related to the history of Commander Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green), the Shenzhou’s First Officer and Discovery’s lead character. Burnham is a human who was raised by Sarek, Spock’s father, on Vulcan after her parents died on the planet during a Klingon attack. Part of the series will center on how Burnham learns to balance her human nature with the Vulcan culture she grew up in.
The title may also have something to do with the iconic Vulcan salute. Created by Leonard Nimoy for his character, Spock, in Star Trek: The Original Series. The salute – in which one raises their right hand, spreads their ring and middle fingers apart and wishes someone to “live long and prosper” – is most often used on the series as a Vulcan farewell.
“The Vulcan Hello” will air on CBS on September 24, 2017. At the same time, “The Vulcan Hello” and the second episode of Star Trek: Discovery, the title of which is still unknown, will be made available on the CBS All Access streaming service, where the remainder of the show’s 15-episode first season will be released week-to-week in North America (it will be released in Netflix in international markets).
